KUCHING: Entrepreneurship skill as one of the important elements in the soft skills domain must be given attention by all quarters including students.
This was pointed out by Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Bumiputera Entrepreneurs’ Development), Datuk Haji Mohd Naroden Haji Majais in his text of speech which was read by State Assemblyman for Pantai Damai, Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi at the official opening of the Young Entrepreneurs’ Festival 2014 at Dewan Jubli Perak, Politeknik Kuching in Matang near here yesterday.
“This is because entrepreneurship skills when practiced by every student regardless of their line of studies would be able to identify good business opportunities, then design business planning framework systematically on their own until they are capable of grabbing business opportunities available. In the economic environment which is getting more challenging, graduates entering the job market should prepare themselves from now by giving attention to the mastery of skills, creativity, endurance and eventually possessing high competitiveness to fulfill the aspiration of the government and generate the workforce needed especially for projects in Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE ),” he said.
He believed that Politeknik Kuching Sarawak is capable of producing quality work force and successful entrepreneurs to become catalysts to nation-building. He also believed that the programme that was launched was a noble initiative in efforts to further strengthen awareness and skills in the field of entrepreneurship, which eventually will create more young entrepreneurs who will plan important roles in the national economy especially in the state.
Naroden said various transformation plans such as enhancing the country’s education development in order to create human capital that are more innovative in exploiting new fields to generate the nation’s wealth.
“Politeknik Kuching Sarawak as an education leader in the technical and vocational fields in Sarawak is seen to be able to response to the challenges of the government in ensuring quality graduates for the job market,” said Naroden who is also Assistant Minister for Planning and Resource Management .
Earlier in her welcoming speech, Clara Ong Guat Leng, director of Politeknik Kuching Sarawak said the Young Entrepreneurs’ Festival 2014 was among the main programmes organised by the Entrepreneurs Unit of Politeknik Kuching Sarawak and this time it was held together with activities organised by various units and departments of the politechnic. The activities included Pesta Jom Niaga, Exhibition of Innovative Recycled products, Career Talks, Job Interviews, Reading Competition and colouring competition for children.
The Entrepreneurial Unit had lined up activities like entrepreneurship workshop and entrepreneurship seminar to provide opportunities to participants to learn skills such has business registration, cupcake making, handicraft and gain knowledge as well as entrepreneur experience.
She said the implementation of the Young Entrepreneurs’ Festival 2014 not only saw cooperation among various departments and units in Politeknik Kuching Sarawak but also saw collaboration between Politeknik Kuching Sarawak with the Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Development Unit.
